Horse Comments:
#7 Grand Slam Smile (2-1) is 5-for-7 with two runner-up finishes and she can do anything. She has won on all-weather, dirt, and turf, and she has won sprinting and routing. She can set the pace, stalk, or close, and she deserves to be the favorite for the productive FrankAlvarado/Steve Specht team.
#9 Pushiness (9-5) wired the field in her first two starts vs. state breds last year at 5f (MSW at SA) and 5.5f (CTBA at DMR). She set a fast pace and weakened to 7th of 12 in the G1 Del Mar Debutante last summer. She returned in a 6f optional-claiming event at LRC on July 4 and she set a pressured pace and missed by a half-length in a clear runner-up finish as the favorite. Her winning rider Umberto Rispoli is 4-for-12 with this outfit recently and she is probably the one to catch at a distance that might be out of reach for her if the pace is too fast.
#6 Roberta’s Love (8-1) stalked the pace and finish a solid third in her dirt sprint bow on Feb. 15. She pressed and graduated second time out and the runner-up was a next-out winner, and she wired the field in the Evening Jewel in April. She stretched out and never got involved in the Melair on May 25, and she is back in a preferred sprint and might bounce back. Juan Hernandez got to know her last time and a stalking trip is expected.
#5 Safa (12-1) was part of the trifecta in her last ten starts. She can pass horses and might spice up the exotics from off the pace.
