#1 J R Jone Z (9-2) chased from second and prevailed by a neck in a local $12.5k/2L affair on June 25 and Scooter Jones is 25% first after the claim. Rosario Montanez is his new rider and he is 13-for-23 with this barn. The sharp early-pressing gelding should attend the pace from the inside post.
#7 Mackenzie’s Novva (7-2) captured two of his last five routes. He was claimed by Brandon Kulp on June 11 and he added blinkers and landed the show on July 3. Scott Spieth is 3-for-5 with this outfit and this barn is 32% second after the claim. The biggest concern is the distance. He is 0-for-2 with a runner-up finish at 6f.
#4 Face Down (5-2) hit the board in his last two allowance sprints including a nose defeat June 11. This is his third start after a layoff and the 4-time local winner is 3-for-9 at this distance.
#5 Strider’s Slider (3-1) set the pace before fading to last 6 in his needed return as the beaten favorite on July 3. He made the lead and held the place in a pair of local sprints last year.
