Horse Comments:
#4 Nitrogen (9-5) is the most consistent runner in this field with top three finishes in all nine outings, and all five of her wins were in the stakes ranks. She is 5-for-6 with a runner-up finish this year under Jose Ortiz and she was the favorite in all of those races. She won four straight turf stakes from January thru May, and romped by 17 lengths in the slop vs. two foes in the G3 Wonder Again on June 7. If she handles fast dirt as well as she handles turf and wet dirt, the race is probably for second.
#2 Good Cheer (8-5) won her first seven career starts and she won five consecutive stakes races including the G1 Ky Oaks. She flopped in the slop as the beaten favorite in the G1 Acorn at SAR June 6 and she tries to bounce back for Luis Saez and Brad Cox.
#1 Margie’s Intention (8-1) is Good Cheer’s stablemate and she was part of the exacta in her last six starts. She moved to the Brad Cox barn and won the G2 Black-Eyed Susan in the slop at 1 1/8 miles on May 16, and she rallied into slow splits to land the place as the beaten favorite in the G3 Delaware Oaks on June 14. She figures to enjoy the added ground of this race.
#6 La Cara (5-2) wired the field in three stakes routes this year including a pair of G1 wins (Ashland, Acorn). She was supposed to run in the G1 CCAO but a quarantine issue forced her to miss that contest. She has been stabled at Saratoga since late May and she sports a pair of local bullets since her last start. She looks like the controlling speed on paper and she will take them as far as she can. The main concern is the distance and an easy lead could help her see out a mile and a quarter.
