Gypsy Blu tried to steal this one on the front end, but strong favorite Just Grazed Me never let her get too far ahead, and she drove past the early leader to score by a bit less than a length. Gypsy Blu just held 2nd over late runner Nardini, and Althea Gibson chased the pace and was another head back in 4th. Smiling Shirlee was bumped at the start and did not have the speed to keep up with the rest.

California Flag Handicap – Winner: Galilean ($5.00)
There was a lot going on in this 5-horse state bred turf sprint stakes affair. Baja Sur stumbled and was bumped and left behind at the start, and that totally eliminated him in this 5.5f dash. Mikes Tiznow got to the front as expected and the final half-furlong was always going to be a dicey proposition. Galilean and Ultimate Bango were in chase mode, and those two went on with it after Mikes Tiznow started weakening, but not before Galilean drifted in and bothered the tiring early runner. Ultimate Bango had a short lead late and Galilean fought back, and those two reached the wire together with Galilean scoring by a head. Ultimate Bango ran too good to lose in his first start after the Glatt claim, and Rookie Mistake ended up an even 3rd. A very unlucky Baja Sur was 4th and Mikes Tiznow faded to last. The stewards conducted an inquiry into the stretch incident involving Galilean and Mikes Tiznow, and there was no change to the original order of finish.
