Autumn Miss Stakes (G3) – Winner: Warren’s Showtime ($3.40)
There was a fast pace in this flat mile turf affair for sophomore fillies. Quiet Secretary was clear early through splits of 22.50, 45.42, and 1:09.69. My value top choice Nasty was in a clear tactical spot in 2nd, and she pounced on the tiring front runner and got the jump on the closers, but the late runners were gaining rapidly. Warren’s Showtime was the favorite for a reason, and she was patiently handled by Flavien Prat and outfinished late running longshot Going To Vegas to score by a neck. Nasty was best of the rest in 3rd and Guitty broke slow and rallied wide to complete the superfecta. Croughavouke was an even 5th, Quiet Secretary weakened to 6th, and Mind Out broke slow, stalked, and weakened to last.

Santa Anita Stakes Recaps for Sunday (10-18-20)
Anoakia Stakes – Winner: Kalypso ($11.60)
A good looking maiden victory in this stakes race. Kalypso was hustled along from the inside post and was in command throughout under Abel Cedillo. She was pressed by her stablemate Illumination (also a maiden) and race favorite Queengol. The latter defeated Kalypso at DMR Sept. 5, but the tables were turned today. Kalypso was clear throughout and won by an emphatic 2-1/4 lengths. Queengol out finished Illumination for the place by a half-length, and Forest Caraway and Needless To Say trailed.
Twilight Derby (G2) – Winner: Smooth Like Strait ($4.60)
Dominant Soul sped to the front in this nine furlong turf test, and strong favorite Smooth Like Strait intently tracked the 57-1 outsider. The latter was ridden perfectly by Umberto Rispoli, and he got the jump on the field after the longshot early runner retreated, and this race was never in doubt. Smooth Like Strait won by a length and a half over Scarto, with Field Pass stalking the pace and holding the show over Kiss Today Goodbye. Farmington Road was along for 5th and K P All Systems Go was right behind him in 6th. Margot’s Boy stalked and retreated to 7th and Express Train steadied early and never got involved on the surface switch. Dominant Soul faded to last.
