Del Mar Recap for Saturday (7-31-21)

The turf course winners were an outside presser at 8T, a front runner at 5T, a closer at 5T, a stalker at 9T, and a closer sitting in 4th of 11 behind a runaway early leader at 8T (rail at 18 feet).
With multiple ship and win horses competing at Del Mar, I am keeping track of where the winners are coming from. On Saturday, five winners last started at SA, one winner exited LRC, one last raced at DMR July 17, one came in from GG, and one was a juvenile FTS for Baffert. That leaves two out of state winners, and they shipped in from CD and IND.
Four more wins for leading pilot Flavien Prat, and he picked up another stakes win aboard Dr. Schivel in the Bing Crosby (G1). Three turf route wins for jockey Juan Hernandez. On the trainer side, Bob Baffert saddled two winners including promising debut juvenile filly Grace Adler.
Bing Crosby Stakes (G1) Recap – Winner: Dr. Schivel ($6.80)
Brickyard Ride set the pace as expected and Law Abidin Citizen and Quick Tempo were breathing down his neck. Dr. Schivel drew a comfortable outer post and was always traveling smoothly while stalking wide, and Eight Rings was also in the mix .It looked for a moment like Dr. Schivel would break it wide open, but he never widened once striking the front and Eight Rings chased him all the way to the wire. In the end, it was Dr. Schivel by a neck over Eight Rings, with beaten favorite C Z Rocket finding his best stride too late. The latter looked to be going nowhere fast but finally got going in the lane and flew wide to miss the runner-up spot by a head. Law Abidin Citizen weakened to 5th and was followed by Brickyard Ride, Shooters Shoot, Quick Tempo, and Vertical Threat. The final time was 1:10.47.
The 20 cent Rainbow Pick 6 pool was $547,890, and multiple tickets with six winners paid $146,350.44. The jackpot carryover stands at $566.810.

Venetian Harbor established a clear early lead and Shedaresthedevil was comfortable stalking the pace from the outside post.
