Del Mar Stakes Recaps for 8-27-21
Tranquility Lake Stakes Recap – Winner: Miss Bigly ($2.80)
Only four went to post for this flat mile dirt stakes, and it turned into quite the battle. Paige Anne was intent on the early lead from the rail and Miss Bigly was right with her from the opening bell. Those two dominated and neither would give an inch. It looked like Miss Bigly would pull clear but Paige Anne kept on finding and in the ding dong battle to the wire, it was Miss Bigly sticking her neck out when it mattered. Paige Anne did everything but win and was 6+ clear of Harper’s Gallop. First Star trailed.
The 20 cent Rainbow Pick 6 pool was $217,939, and multiple tickets with six winners paid $1,088.14. The jackpot carryover stands at $83,350.

Del Mar Recap for Saturday (8-28-21)
Fast main track and firm turf course. Two front running winners at 6f on dirt. Tactical types won the other four dirt sprints on a speed favoring day. The turf course winners were a presser at 5T, a dueling front runner and a stalker at 5T (dead-heat), a front runner at 5T, a stalker at 11T, and a front runner at 8.5T (rail at 18 feet).

Two juveniles MSW dirt sprint winners were making their career debuts. One winner last raced at the DMR fall 2020 meet, one last raced at SA April 2021. The other Saturday winner was coming in from CD. As you can see, that makes twelve winners from eleven races, and that is because there was a dead-heat for the win in the 5th race.
Hat trick for Umberto Rispoli. Riding doubles for Geovanni Franco and Florent Geroux. Training triple for John Sadler. He saddled the opener winner and both of the dead-head winners in the 5thrace.
Del Mar Stakes Recaps for 8-28-21
Pat O’Brien Stakes (G2) Recap – Winner: Ginobili ($12.80)
Drayden Van Dyke deserves all the credit for this win. Brickyard Ride shot straight to the front as expected, and Van Dyke deftly guided Ginobili off the rail and smartly tracked the pace from 2nd. Brickyard Ride faded as expected, Ginobili took over, opened up by 3+ lengths in the stretch, and cruised home by a bit less than two lengths. C Z Rocket just nipped Flagstaff for the place and Eight Rings stalked the pace and was best of the rest in 4th. Classier, Howbeit, Mo Mosa, Surfing Star, and Brickyard Ride completed the order of finish. Ginobili ran seven panels in 1:22.36.

On Sunday, seven winners last started at the current DMR meet, and none of them were exiting victories. Del Mar Stakes Recaps for 8-29-21
Shared Belief Stakes Recap – Winner: Medina Spirit ($3.80)
On paper, it looked like Medina Spirit would sprint to the front and refuse to be passed, and that is exactly how it played out in real time. John Velazquez was aggressive early and made sure Medina Spirit was on top early, and he was not going slow by any stretch of the imagination. The opening quarter of the flat mile race was 22.52. Rock Your World chased intently from 2nd and Rispoli knew he was in trouble early. He tried to make a middle move but Medina Spirit’s fighting spirit was having none of that, and he maintained a short advantage and never let anyone pass him in a determined 1-1/4 length victory. Rock Your World was clearly second best and was never going to defeat Medina Spirit from chase mode. Stilletto Boy finished 3rd despite being bothered by Team Merchants (5th). The Great One and Willy the Cobbler also ran. The final time was 1:37.29.
The 20 cent Rainbow Pick 6 pool was $461,538, and multiple tickets with six winners paid $4,834,70. The jackpot carryover stands at $294,181.
