Santa Anita Stakes Recaps for 10-16-21

I picked Bella Vita on top in the California Distaff Handicap because I thought she was a viable alternative to morning line favorite Warren’s Showtime, but Bella Vita was bet down, and she stalked outside and finished a flat 4th. Warren’s Showtime sat back from the inside post and rallied smartly for the win. Sedamar battled on the pace with Anna Fantastic and finished 2nd, and the latter was best of the rest in 3rd. They completed their downhill journey in 1:13.76.

The 20 cent Rainbow 6 pool was $229,325, and multiple tickets with six winners paid $5,833.92. The jackpot carryover stands at $449,383.

Oct. 16 Claims: Race 4 – Kneedfeepinsnow ($80k, Ryan Hanson).

Santa Anita Recap for Sunday (10-17-21)

Fast main track and firm turf course. Two front running winners at 6f on dirt. On the turf course, a front runner tallied in the 6f opener, a front runner went all the way at 8f, a closer scored at 6f, a closer won the California Flag down the dip, and a closer captured the 6f finale (rail at 10 feet).

Juan Hernandez booted home a pair in turf sprints. Phil D’Amato saddled two turf sprint winners.

Santa Anita Stakes Recaps for 10-17-21

Peter Miller in a turf sprint. I have used that angle so many times, but not in the California Flag Handicap on the downhill turf course. I was all over favorite North County Guy, and it looked like my top choice would get the job done, but longshot Indian Peak ($35.80), under profitable turf rider Juan Hernandez, rallied from the outside post to prevail by a head in a three-horse photo with my top pick and Unbridled Ethos. The final time was 1:12.52.

The 20 cent Rainbow 6 pool was $369,188, and multiple tickets with six winners paid $98,615.00. The jackpot carryover stands at $533,910.
