Del Mar Recap for Saturday (11-20-21)
Fast main track and firm turf course. Two front running maiden claiming winners at 5.5f on dirt. On the turf course, dueling front runners won the 5f opener and the third race, a stalker scored at 8.5f, and a closer tallied at 8.5f (rail at 18 feet).
Tyler Baze, Kent Desormeaux, and Umberto Rispoli (turf) each booted home a pair. Phil D’Amato saddled a pair of turf route winners.
Del Mar Stakes Recaps for 11-20-21
Bob Baffert had three of the six entrants in the Grade 3 Native Diver Stakes at 9f, and I picked the right one on top. Azul Coast ($8.40) was patiently handled and raced out in the clear under Flavien Prat. He moved up wide around the far turn, took the lead in the lane, and held off Kiss Today Goodbye to win by a half-length. Beaten even money favorite Eight Rings chased from 2nd and was best of the rest in 3rd. Bal Harbour and fading front runner Ax Man were next, and Established bled and was eased and walked off. The final time was 1:50.55.
Nov. 20 Claims: Race 2 – Builder ($16k, Doug O’Neill), Invictatatus ($16k, Milton Pineda).
The 20 cent Rainbow 6 pool was $300,994, and multiple tickets with six winners paid $22,970.66. The jackpot carryover stands at $347,763.

Del Mar Recap for Sunday (11-21-21)
Fast main track and firm turf course. One front running winner at 6f on dirt. On the turf course, a front runner won at one mile, a last-to-first closer scored at one mile, a closer tallied at five panels, and a patient stalker sat in 4th behind a clear early leader and surged late to graduate at 8.5f (rail at 18 feet).
Just like Saturday, Kent Desormeaux booted home a pair, and this time his two winners were in dirt sprints including Cary Grant Stakes bomber Principe Carlo. Richard Baltas saddled two winners.
Del Mar Stakes Recaps for 11-21-21
Principe Carlo ($39.00) was the longest shot in the field in the Cary Grant Stakes for CA-bred extended sprinters, and he stalked wide and prevailed in a 3-horse blanket finish. Positivity forced the pace, led late, and was nailed on the line. My top choice Colt Fiction was close up throughout, and he had the lead in the lane but could not quite last in a solid effort. The top three were 2+ clear of None Above the Law, and Peaceful Transfer, Fashionably Fast, and Loud Mouth trailed. The final time was 1:22.33.
Nov. 21 Claims: Race 2 – Mucho Del Oro ($40k, Vladimir Cerin). Race 7 – Invincibella ($25k, Doug O’Neill), Savvy Gal ($25k, Jeff Mullins).
The 20 cent Rainbow 6 pool was $309,717, and multiple tickets with six winners paid $4,483,96. The jackpot carryover stands at $418,673.
