On the turf course, a slow starting closer from the inside post won the 8f opener, a stalker was placed first through disqualification at 9f, a chalky closer graduated at 9f, a closer tallied at 6f, and a front runner upset the 6f finale (rail at 30 feet).

Santa Anita Recap for Saturday (3-19-22)
Fast main track and firm turf course. Two front running winners on dirt (6f, 8f). On the turf course, a stalker won the 6f opener, a front runner graduated at 6f, a stalker tallied at 8f, a stalker took the Irish O’Brien down the hill, and a last-to-first closer took the 8f finale.
Tyler Baze booted home a pair. Juan Hernandez and John Sadler teamed up for two wins.

Irish O’Brien: Becca Taylor was the heavy favorite. She tried to run her record to 7-for-7, and she set the pace and dug in gamely, but Eddie’s New Dream ($8.80) nailed her on the line to win by a scant nose. My top choice Sensible Cat finished an even 3rd. She’s Devoted, Sassyserb, Pulpit Rider, and Maybe I Will also ran.
The 20 cent Rainbow 6 pool was $3,401,029, and multiple tickets with six winners paid $26,755.74. There was a mandatory payout on Saturday, so the jackpot carryover starts over.

Santa Anita Recap for Sunday (3-20-22)
Fast main track and firm turf course. Stalkers won all three dirt races (5.5f, 6f, 6f). On the turf course, a last-to-first closer won the 9f opener, a closer scored at 10f, a dueling front runner graduated at 6.5f, a front runner took the downhill feature, and a front runner stole the 9f finale (rail at 20 feet).
Juan Hernandez guided home four winners and three were on turf. Craig Lewis saddled two turf winners and Hernandez rode both.
Santa Anita Stakes Recaps for 3-20-22
Sensational Star: Brickyard Ride ($3.40) was just a bit too quick for his rivals. He was able to secure the lead with superior early foot in this downhill turf sprint, something he does frequently on dirt. He spurted away in the stretch and comfortably held off Indian Peak to score by a length and a half. The latter bobbled at the start from the inside post, worked his way up while racing between foes, and came outside, altered path, and was getting to the winner late. The finish might have been interesting if he got a better trip. My value top choice Riding With Dino broke slow and was best of the rest in 3rd. The final time was 1:11.45.
The 20 cent Rainbow 6 pool was $126,461, and multiple tickets with six winners paid $122.56. The jackpot carryover stands at $28,953.
