Saratoga Race Course
Weather: Temperatures in the mid-80’s with low chance of precipitation
Race 8: Gr. I $500,000 Diana Stakes (9F, Turf, Fillies & Mares, 4yr Old’s +)
#3 – Bleecker Street (6-5): Hard to knock a horse that has never tasted defeat and I will side with her until I see different. The daughter of Quality Road is 7-for-7 with four Graded Stakes scores, including a win in the Gr. I New York on June 10th. Irad Ortiz stays aboard, and the duo will be coming from the clouds as per usual. #6 – In Italian (6-1) will be sent when the gates open and I think this distance may suit her as she should get a chance to relax more on the front tend. This Brown trainee has never missed the board from six starts (6 3-2-1). #5 – Dalika (15-1) should be part of the early pace under Ricardo Santana Jr. and these two finished second in the Gr. III Mint Julip on June 5th. Plays: #3 to Win, Trifecta Key 3 – 5,6, Trifecta 5,6 – 3 – 5,6
Race 8: Gr. IIII $175,000 Sanford Stakes (6F, Dirt, 2yr Old’s)
#3 – Great Navigator (12-1): I liked the way this one moved on debut, and he was flattered by next out winner Rol Again Dancer on July 2nd. He really stretched his legs down the lane so he may need more distance, but he certainly showed professionalism first time out. #5 – Curly Jack (6-1) broke well and took them all the way in his first start for Tom Amoss. Tyler Gaffalione picks up the mount and his pedigree suggests he’ll prefer middle distance sprint to route (6 – 8.5F) races. #4 – Forte (5-2) won by 7+ for the superhero combo of Pletcher-Ortiz Jr. and should only get better with distance and age. #2 – Major Dude (10-1) split foes at the top of the lane on debut and I just can’t help but think how pretty that performance was. Would not discount the ‘other’ Pletcher in here. Plays: #3 to Win, Trifecta 3,4 – 2,3,5 – 2,3,5,12
