Saratoga Race Course
Weather: Temperatures in the low-90’s with low chance of precipitation
Race 5: Gr. I $500,000 CCA Oaks (9F, Dirt, 3yr Old Fillies)
#3 – Nest (1-1): Interesting to see this one as the morning line favorite when #5 – Secret Oath (6-5) bested her in the Gr. I Kentucky Oaks on May 6. Nest did encounter some traffic that day, but I am not sure she was beating Secret Oath regardless. Nest subsequently came back to finish a gallant second in the Gr. I Belmont again the boys so maybe that gave her the morning line edge. I see Irad staying close to likely pace setter #2 – Society (8-1) in the early going and being quite difficult to reel in. Plays: #3 to Win, Trifecta key 3 – 1,2,4
Race 10: Gr. III $200,000 Caress Stakes (5.5F, Turf, Fillies & Mares, 4yrs Old +)
#4 – Bout Time (3-1): Has improved with each race and I was impressed with his win at Monmouth last time out on June 25. The Cherie DeVaux trainee broke last but quickly regained position behind the front runners. Going around the final turn, she was tipped off the rail and within a few strides was on even terms with Robin Sparkles. That didn’t last long as Bout Time pulled away to win by 2+. She’ll have speed to chase once again, and it seems she is improving at the right time. #8 – Souper Sensational (8-1) will try the grass again after finishing second in Gr. II Royal North at Woodbine going 6.5F’s. Has the best back class of the group and Dylan Davis has been riding well these past couple weeks. #6 – Robin Sparkles (15-1) will be your pace setter and could take them all the way if Castellano can get her to relax in the second half. #1 – Caravel (5-2) is 1-for-1 over the track as she took this race last year. She has five wins from eight starts at this distance. Plays: #4 to Win, Exacta Box 4,8, Trifecta 4,8 – 3,4,8 – 1,5,6,9
