Saturday (8/6/2022)
Saratoga Race Course
Weather: Temperatures in the mid-80’s with moderate chance of showers throughout the afternoon

Race 5: $135,000 Lure Stakes (8.5F, Turf, 4yr Old’s +)

#8 – Somelikeithotbrown (5-2): This NY bred has become a familiar face at Saratoga over the course of his career. He broke his maiden over the course going 9F’s in 2018 and won the Gr. II Bernard Baruch Handicap in 2020. He is 2-for-3 over the course with one second place finish and this start will be his third off the layoff for Mike Maker. Last time out, the six-year-old finished third behind Ivar and Cavalry Charge in the Jonathan B. Schuster Memorial Stakes at Indiana Downs where he led a speedy contested group until mid-stretch. I don’t think he gets that kind of pressure in this one and Irad could walk the dog on the front end. #2 – Safe Conduct (6-1) finished second to Sacred Life in the Gr. III Monmouth Stakes on June 18th and should have first go at the former entering the turn for home. Plays: #8 to Win, Exacta 8/ 1,2

Race 7: Gr. II $250,000 Glen Falls Stakes (12F, Inner Turf, Fillies & Mares, 4yr Old’s +)

#2 – Virginia Joy (5-2): Won a Gr. II and Gr. III for Chad Brown before running fourth in the Gr. I New York behind fellow stalemate Bleecker Street. Finished a close second to Call Me Love in her lone try at 12F’s and I think she is the most likely winner outside of the favorite. I am cautious of #6 – War Like Goddess (1-2) due to her inconsistent workout pattern and her series of setbacks leading up to this race. Plays: #2 to Win

Race 9: Gr. I $500,000 Test Stakes (7F, Dirt, 3yr Old Fillies)

#4 – Wish You Well (12-1): Broke her maiden first time out for George Weaver before finishing a distant 10th in an 80K OC event on May 6th (over the slop). I am going to draw a line through that performance due to the track conditions, so I am expecting a bounce back effort from the daughter of American Freedom. #1 – Matareya (2-5) has won four in a row for Brad Cox and is certainly the class of the race. Her versatile style should help in this one as there does look like a decent amount of speed on paper. I expect Prat will come from off the pace. #2 – Sterling Silver (15-1) could spice up the exotics as she’s never missed the board when sprinting. Plays:
#4 to Win, Trifecta 1,4 / 1,4 / 2,3
