Santa Anita Stakes Recaps for 12-30-22
Eddie Logan (8f): My best bet top choice Classical Cat ($6.60) worked out a comfortable stalking trip under Rispoli, and he wore down presser First Peace to score by a half-length. Nagirroc was an even 3rd as the beaten chalk. The final time was 1:34.38, and this was the fastest of four flat mile turf races on the card.
Blue Norther (8f): Broadway Girls ($35.80) stole this one under Maldonado. She got clear early and was chased by Manhattan Jungle (IRE) and Ami Please. Those three made it a parade with Broadway Girls scoring by a length and a half. My top choice Tea N Conversation was the only closer making up any ground. She was rolling in the lane under Rispoli and just missed the show. Thebestisyettobe was an even 5th. Betting favorite G Laurie raced wide, eased, and walked off. The final time was 1:36.01.
The 20 cent Rainbow 6 pool was $143,542, and nobody had six winners. Multiple tickets with five winners paid $3,651.66. The jackpot carryover stands at $159,652.

Santa Anita Recap for Saturday (12-31-22)
Fast main track and good turf course. No front running winners on dirt. On the turf course, a 7-1 front runner captured the Joe Hernandez (G2) at 6.5f down the hill, a front running favorite took the Robert Frankel (G3) at 9f, a 7-2 presser graduated at 6f, an outside stalker graduated at 2-1 odds at 6f, and a last-to-first closer scored at 9-2 odds in the 6f finale (rail at 10 feet).
Mark Glatt saddled two winners.
Saturday Stakes Recaps (12-31-22)
Grade 2 Joe Hernandez (6.5T): This downhill sprint lacked early speed and Air Force Red ($16.40) took full advantage. He got clear early under Juan Hernandez, and he just cruised along throughout in an easy win by a bit less than two lengths. Lane Way chased from the inside post and was second best, and Gregorian Chant (GB) sat in midpack and picked up the show. Smooth Like Strait stalked outside and ended up an even 4th. Irideo (ARG), Whatmakessammyrun, Kiss Today Goodbye, Front Run the Fed, Sigiloso, and Hit the Road completed the order of finish. The final time was 1:11.53.
Grade 3 Robert J. Frankel (9T): Betting favorite Queen Goddess ($6.00) got an easy lead through moderate splits and was never seriously threatened in a comfortable 2 1/2 length victory under Johnny V. Closing Remarks, making her first start in more than eight months, stalked the pace under Bravo and gamely chased the winner while second best. Quattroelle (IRE) stalked the pace from the outside post and was best of the rest in 3rd. England’s Rose rallied mildly for 4th and was followed by Warren’s Candy Girl, Bipartisanship (GB), Avenue de France (FR), New Heat, Scarabea, and Island of Love (GB). The final time over the good turf course was 1:48.35.
Grade 3 Las Flores (6f): A contested pace battle between Doris Mae and Manorelli helped set the table for Lady T ($6.80). The latter sat in midpack from an outer post, moved up wide to engage the leaders, and kicked away in the lane to score by a length and a quarter. Manorelli out gamed Doris Mae for the runner-up spot, and beaten favorite Samurai Charm was a clear 4th. Lexington Humor, Violent Runner, Anacapa, and Classical Romance also competed. Victor Espinoza rode the winner for John Shirreffs, and the final time was 1:09.65.
