Santa Anita Stakes Recaps for 1-21-23

Astra Stakes (12T): This was a wide open event on paper, and that is exactly how it played out in real time. Lady Clementine (GB) carved out the splits for a good 10f or so. Post time favorite Australia Mia pressed throughout and Queen Ofthe Temple stalked, led, and was almost home free, but Duvet Day (IRE) got free from traffic and rumbled down the middle of the lane to score by 1 1/4 lengths under Kimura. Queen Ofthe Temple was second best and Australia Mia held 3rd by a neck over Almost a Factor. My value top choice Warrens Candy Girl passed a few horses and ended up 5th. New Heat, Barrister’s Ride, Lady Clementine (GB), and Tiz an Edventure trailed. The winner paid $28.80 and the final time was 2:28.12.

The 20 cent Rainbow 6 pool was $144,702, and nobody had six winners. Multiple tickets with five winners paid $2,785.60. The jackpot carryover stands at $149,361.
