Santa Anita Recap for Saturday (2-18-23)
Fast main track and firm turf course. No front running winners on dirt but I would hardly say it was anti-speed favoring. Pressers and stalkers won each of the four main track races. On the turf course, a 9-1 presser/stalker graduated in the 6.5f opener, an inside front running favorite earned his diploma at 6.5f, a front running favorite tallied at 1 1/8 miles, a front running favorite graduated at one mile, and a 7-1 shot wired the field in the hillside finale (rail at 20 feet).
Four big wins for Frankie Dettori. Riding double for Kazushi Kimura. John Sadler saddled two main track winners. Leonard Powell saddled a pair of front running turf winners and Dettori rode both.
Santa Anita Stakes Recaps for 2-18-23
Wishing Well (6.5T): Frankie Dettori capped off a big day with a theft in the stakes finale. He got Freedom Flyer to the front from the outside post in this downhill sprint. She set a controlled tempo while facing inside pressure from Stella Noir. Bay Storm was up close as well. Freedom Flyer maintained her advantage in the stretch and she dug deep when challenged by Bay Storm and post time favorite Big Summer. Freedom Flyer ($16.40) would not relent and held safe by a neck, with Big Summer a neck in front of Bay Storm. Countess Rosina (IRE) was a length behind Bay Storm and she did not have the smoothest trip. Lady Jae was next and Stella Noir weakened to last place. The final time was 1:12.34.
The 20 cent Rainbow 6 pool was $108,503, and multiple tickets with six winners paid $440.66. The jackpot carryover stands at $125,150.

Santa Anita Recap for Sunday (2-19-23)
Fast main track and firm turf course. One front running winner at 6f on dirt. On the turf course, an outside stalking favorite graduated in the 6f opener, a 5-1 stalker reeled in a loose front runner to graduate at 8f, an 8-2 closer from the outside post scored at 6.5f, a stalking favorite tallied by a neck at 6.5f, and a 9-2 stalker earned her diploma at 6.5f (rail at 10 feet).
Flavien Prat guided home two dirt sprint winners. Phil D’Amato saddled two winners.
Santa Anita Stakes Recaps for 2-19-23
Spring Fever (6f): This compact field had plenty of action. Chancery Way and Doris Mae dueled early. Eddie’s New Dream stalked from 3rd, and Gutierrez got impatient and made an early move. Taming the Tigress joined the fray four-wide and there was suddenly a mad scramble for the lead. Flavien Prat was loving what he saw in front of him aboard race favorite Alice Marble ($4.00). The latter was begging for room behind the leaders, and she found a seam and spurted away to score by 1 3/4 lengths. Taming the Tigress was 2nd and Eddie’s New Dream weakened late after having the lead in the stretch, and she was 5+ clear of Doris Mae and Chancery Way. The final time was 1:10.29.
The 20 cent Rainbow 6 pool was $171,018, and multiple tickets with six winners paid $6,198.02. The jackpot carryover stands at $164,304.

On the turf course, a 5-2 closer won the 9f opener, a closing favorite scored at one mile, a 7-2 presser graduated at 6.5f, a 7-1 closer broke her maiden at 6f, and a stalking favorite tallied down the hill.
Hector Berrios booted home a pair.
Santa Anita Stakes Recaps for 2-20-23
Tiznow (8f): Finneus was a late scratch and that left a 4-horse field. The Chosen Vron ($2.60) made short work of this group as expected. He scooted to the front and faced pressure from Leyas Candy for six panels or so. He shook off that rival and pulled clear to score by an easy 6 1/2 lengths. Leyas Candy was clearly second best and Coalinga Road raced in 3rd throughout. It was a long way back to Club Cal. The final time was 1:36.16.
The 20 cent Rainbow 6 pool was $218,613, and multiple tickets with six winners paid $427.68. The jackpot carryover stands at $214,356.
