Santa Anita Recap for Saturday (3-11-23)
Good main track and off the turf. Three front running winners on dirt (6f, 6f, 9f).
Hat trick for Flavien Prat. Riding double for Joe Bravo.
Santa Anita Stakes Recaps for 3-11-23
San Carlos (G3): Forbidden Kingdom sped to the front and Spirit of Makena chased from 2nd. Get Her Number was the bet-down favorite and he was last early. Forbidden Kingdom was just chugging along on the front end but Spirit of Makena was getting closer and those two kicked away. Spirit of Makena ($7) struck the front and edged away to score by a length and a half. Forbidden Kingdom was a clear 2nd and Get Her Number edged Howbeit for the show. Holden the Lute and Clem Labine also ran. The final time for seven panels is 1:22.06.
Beholder Mile (G1): Ganadora got the the front and stablemate Fun to Dream pressed and moved up to engage. The latter was the chalk and that early pace battle cost her dearly late. A Mo Reay chased outside from 3rd and she was in the right spot. Fun to Dream put away Ganadora and got clear in the lane, but my best bet value top choice A Mo Reay ($17.80) kept plugging away under Prat and got up in the final strides to score by a head. The runner-up ran too good to lose and was 2+ clear of her other stablemate Midnight Memories. Desert Dawn rallied wide and worked her way up to 3rd, but flattened out and completed the Superfecta in her first start since last September. Kirstenbosch, Awake At Midnyte, Pauline’s Pearl, and Ganadora also ran. The final time for one mile on a track rated good was 1:36.25.
The 20 cent Rainbow 6 pool was $68,164, and multiple tickets with six winners paid $1,873.08. The jackpot carryover stands at $54,556.

Santa Anita Recap for Sunday (3-12-23)
Fast main track and good turf course. One front running winner at seven panels on dirt. On the turf course, a 3-1 front runner graduated in the flat mile opener, a dueling front running favorite scored at 5f, a 5-2 closer scored from an outer post in a hillside sprint, a 9-2 stalker won the Santa Ana (G3) at 1 1/4 miles, and a midpack stalker captured the 5f finale at 15-1 odds.
Kyle Frey booted home a pair of turf sprint winners. Librado Barocio saddled three sprint winners. Two were turf sprints and Frey rode both. Steve Knapp saddled two winners on the main track.
Santa Anita Stakes Recaps for 3-12-23
Santa Ana (G3): 16-1 longshot Annaghlasa (IRE) was intent on the early lead and Ballet Dancing chased from the outside post. Those two stayed clear, and when Annaghlasa started to get tired, Flavien Prat made his move aboard my best bet top choice Ballet Dancing ($11.40), and Simon Callaghan’s bay filly darted to the front and kicked away to win by an easy 3 1/2 lengths. There was a three-way battle for the place, and Queen Ofthe Temple nipped Duvet Day (IRE) and Buzz of New York (IRE). Ascendancy, Annaghlasa, and beaten favorite Australia Mia completed the order of finish. The 3-2 choice bobbled at the start, stalked the pace, retreated, eased, and walked off under Frankie Dettori. The final time for 1/14 miles on a good turf course was 2:01.25.
The 20 cent Rainbow 6 pool was $119,331, and multiple tickets with six winners paid $21,249.94. The jackpot carryover stands at $81,877.
March 12 Claims: Race 4 – Sawsadee ($20k, Ron Ellis). Race 6 – Spoiled Rotten ($16k, Lorenzo Ruiz).
