Santa Anita Recap for Saturday (10-28-23)

Fast main track and firm turf course. One front running winner at 6.5f on dirt. The other three main track winners pressed the pace. On the turf course, a 19-1 front runner graduated in the 6.5f opener, a last-to-first closer earned her diploma at 7-2 odds at one mile, a 5-1 midpack stalker was placed first through disqualification in MSW flat mile affair, a last-to-first closer tallied at 7-2 odds at one mile, and Easter (FR) stormed home late to win the Lure Stakes at one mile (rail at 30 feet).

Antonio Fresu booted home a pair on turf. Frankie Dettori’s mounts crossed the line first on two occasions in turf routes, but his first ride Circle of Trust was disqualified and placed last for bothering Motet. Tim Yakteen saddled two maiden route winners.

Santa Anita Stakes Recaps for 10-28-23

Lure Stakes (8T): This was a visually pleasing stretch run. Astronomer scratched and that development left Bally’s Charm as the controlling speed. The fractions were 24.07 and 47.52. Visitant kept the pace honest and was a length back after 6f in 1:10.60. The early interior splits were 23.46 and 23.06, and speeding up in the middle helped my best bet top choice Easter (FR). The latter was ridden by Frankie Dettori, and she started inside, moved out and crept closer. Bally’s Charm was still in front in the lane and was clear and looked home free, but never count out Dettori. Easter ($6.00) was stuck behind horses, split runners, and produced an impressive big late surge to score by a half-length. Bally’s Charm did everything right but ran into a superior runner in a clear place finish. Cabo Spirit stalked from the outside post and completed the trifecta, and was followed by War At Sea, Shortman, Hit the Road, Visitant, and Irideo (ARG). Graham Motion was the winning trainer and the final time was 1:33.40.

The $1 Pick 6 pool was $137,2756 and multiple tickets with six winners paid $24,445.40. The 5 out of 6 consolation prize was $314.20.
