Check out my Santa Anita Park race 8 analysis for 1-27-24 below.

SA 8 (G2 San Pasqual, 9f)
Primary – #6 MR FISK, #5 Newgrange
Secondary – #7 Mixto, #4 Newgate
Wagers: #6 to win, Exacta 5-6/5-6-7, Trifecta 4-5-6/4-5-6/7

Comments: #6 Mr Fisk (3-1) is a late blooming son of Arrogate, and he is using this as a prep for the Big ‘Cap at a mile and a quarter. Baffert’s colt shared the win with his stablemate Tahoe Sunrise in the Shared Belief as the favorite Sept. 3, and stalked and scored as my top choice in the Native Diver (G3) at 1 1/8 miles Nov. 26. He earned quality late pace ratings in his last pair and he easily handled #5 Newgrange (5-2) last time. The latter bounced back with a clear 2 1/4 length victory as my top choice in the local San Antonio (G2) Dec. 26. He is 4-for-6 at SA and he won this event last year. #7 Mixto (5-1) is clearly best around two turns and I would like to get him somewhere on the board. He landed the show in his first two flat mile attempts, and graduated by a head at one mile Nov. 17. He picked up the place behind Newgrange in the San Antonio (G2) last time. O’Neill’s Good Magic colt is on the upswing and Fresu rides him well. #4 Newgate (3-1) was on the Derby trail last winter with a neck defeat in the Sham (G3) and a victory in the Robert Lewis (G3). He got injured after that and went to the sidelines for more than 11 months. He resurfaced in a local optional-claiming sprint Jan. 6, and he stalked the pace and was gaining on Big City Lights in a half-length defeat. His winning pilot Dettori is riding at GP on Saturday so Rosario takes over the riding duties.
