Check out my Santa Anita Park race 2 analysis for 2-17-24 below.
SA 2 (Mcl-50k, CA-bred, 6f)
Primary – #7 FINAL STORM, #2 Mr. Big Bucks
Secondary – #6 Twilight Moon, #3 Last Call Paul
Wagers: #7 to win, Exacta box 2-7, Trifecta 2-6-7/2-6-7/3
Comments: #7 Final Storm (5-2) was my 15-1 top choice as a second timer for quality conditioner Pederson Jan. 7, and he chased the pace and ended up 5th of 9. He picked up the show in his solid LRC bow Dec. 8, and this is his first start for a tag. #2 Mr. Big Bucks (3-1) battled on the pace as the 3-2 favorite and landed the place in his second career start in a similar dirt sprint at LRC last September. That was his second career start, and he chased a 34-1 front runner and finished an even fourth when last seen in October. He worked a half-mile from the gate Feb. 9 and the new gelding adds lasix and should be forwardly placed. #6 Twilight Moon (4-1) was an even fourth in his maiden claiming dirt sprint bow. He was fourth again in a MSW turf route second time out, and was best of the rest in third in a similar local dirt route Jan. 28. Craig Lewis saddled two winners on Thursday. #3 Last Call Paul (3-1) was beaten less than a length in a runner-up finish vs. similar LRC dirt sprinters Dec. 16. He was 40 cents on the dollar Jan. 12 and raced wide from the outside post and ended up a flat fourth. The underachiever might get overbet again.
