Check out my Wednesday (4-24-24) Race 7 analysis at Keeneland below.
KEE 7 (OC-80k/2x, f&m 4&up, 6f)
Primary – #2 ACCEDE, #8 Amaretti
Secondary – #3 Howl, #1 Unsung Melody
Horse Comments:
#2 Accede (7-2) looked good rallying for the win in a local entry level sprint last fall, and the clear runner-up was a next-out winner. Chad Brown’s returnee is 2-for-2 with lasix and 0-for-4 without it, and will have that medication in this spot. She is 1-for-1 at Keeneland, 1-for-1 at six panels, and 2-for-2 with Irad Ortiz Jr. in the saddle.
#8 Amaretti (4-1) graduated by open lengths as the favorite at this course and distance last spring. She flopped in the slop in her first start vs. winners, and bounced back with a wire-to-wire win in her fast entry level return at Aqueduct on Feb. 24. She drilled a half-mile bullet for this at Churchill Downs on April 14, and she should make her presence felt from the outset under Jose Ortiz.
#3 Howl (9-5) pressed from the outside post and romped as the favorite in her local bow last fall, and shipped to Maryland and won the Safely Kept Stakes as the strong favorite second time out. She went to Santa Anita and was the chalk in the Grade 1 La Brea late last year, and she pressed the pace and faltered. Brad Cox is a quality layoff trainer and her winning rider Flavien Prat stays put.
#1 Unsung Melody (3-1) is the inside speed and this is her first start since September 2023. She reconnects with her winning rider Reylu Gutierrez.
