Check out my Thursday (4-25-24) Race 7 analysis at Keeneland below.
KEE 7 (OC-100k/3x, 4&up, 7f)
Primary – #7 BOURBON HEIST, #3 Eyeing Clover
Secondary – #6 Angkor
Horse Comments:
#7 Bourbon Heist (3-1) looks dangerous returning to Keeneland. He fired in both local attempts including a romping allowance score at this specialty distance last spring. He exits a solid show finish on all-weather ground in the Forego Stakes at Turfway, and the top two finishes were next-out winners. Irad Ortiz Jr. takes the call and the patient runner can win this if the pace is honest.
#3 Eyeing Clover (4-1) pressed the pace and was best of the rest in third on March 14, and that was his first start in more than eight months. He reconnects with his winning rider Florent Geroux and he wins races with Brad Cox. He should impact the pace for a strong shipping outfit.
#6 Angkor (9-5) was part of the trifecta in his last six starts. He was just 1-for-16 to start his career, and the versatile gelding has suddenly learned how to win races (2 wins last 4 starts). The consistent sort landed the show in both local starts and is 0-for-6 with four minor awards at seven panels. This is his first start since November 2023.
