Check out my Thursday (5-9-24) Race 7 & 8 analysis at Pimlico below.

Pimlico is my hometown track and it might be a good idea to look for mudders on the opening day program (60% chance of rain). Let’s see if we can start the Preakness meet with a winner or two.

PIM 7 (Alw-48k, MD-bred or sired 3&up, 1 1/16 miles dirt)
Primary – #4 MOSLER TIME, #5 Energy Efficient
Secondary – #1 Running River/#1a Jardana

Horse Comments:

#4 Mosler Time (5-2) pulled off a 14-1 upset on March 24 and the show finisher was a next-out winner. He controlled the pace last time and drilled a Fair Hill bullet for this on May 4. Cathal Lynch’s gelding is ready to fire a fresh shot.

#5 Energy Efficient (2-1) was strong in his first start after the Richard Sillaman claim on April 14. He pressed lively fractions and kicked away to score by 4 1/2 lengths that day. He tries two turns and should be forwardly placed from the outset under Angel Cruz.

#1 Running River (8-5) and #1 Jardana (8-5) have complementary running styles for Jamie Ness. The former might be the one to catch and the latter would appreciate a fast, contested pace.

Wagers:

#4 to win

Exacta box 4-5

Trifecta 4-5/1-4-5/1-4-5

Double (races 7-8): 4-3

Double (races 7-8): 4/3-5-6-7

Double (races 7-8): 1-4-5/3

PIM 8 (Clm-30k/2L, f&m, 6 furlongs dirt)
Primary – #3 WHATSYOURBIGIDEA, #5 Goldrush Hottie
Secondary – #6 I Can Do it, #7 Visby

Horse Comments:

#3 Whatsyourbigidea (3-1) drops out of the allowance ranks for high percentage trainer Magee. This one added blinkers and was second best in the slop in a $40k/2L affair late last year, and lost three allowance races since. Karamanos is 4-for-8 with this outfit recently.

#5 Goldrush Hottie (5-2) moved to the Magee barn April 7 and was third as the favorite that day. She wired the field as the chalk in a $30k maiden claimer April 26 and should be all over the pace under her winning rider Barbosa.

#6 I Can Do It (4-1) is now conditioned by Gina Perri and this trainer is a profitable 13% this year. She is back in a restricted claimer and can contend for a minor award.

#7 Visby (9-2) graduated at 10 cents on the dollar in a 4 1/2 panel dash at Charles Town on March 23, and the runner-up was a next-out winner. She should attend the pace from the outside post for 28% trainer Justin Nixon.
