Check out my Sunday (5-12-24) Golden Hour Double analysis below.
Santa Anita Race 9 and Golden Gate Race 8

SA 9 (MSW, CA-bred, 5T)
Primary – #4 SPECIAL CLUB, #6 Western Grit
Secondary – #7 Don’t Hit Me Bash, #8 Only Alleged

Horse Comments:

#4 Special Club (5-2) turns back and sprinting might be his game. He missed by a neck and a nose in his two dirt sprints, and he reconnects with Juan Hernandez and dam has tossed a turf winner. He ran okay in his turf sprint bow after a slow start.

#6 Western Grit (3-1) is quick early so cutting back a furlong makes him a dangerous pace player under aggressive rider Tyler Baze. He set a fast pace and missed by a half-length at 6T on Jan. 13, and stalked lively fractions and split a 10-horse field April 20.

#7 Don’t Hit Me Bash (6-1) was an even fourth at 6T on Jan. 13. Western Grit was second that day and the show finisher was a next-out winner. The fresh colt figures to stalk the pace and Edward Freeman is a profitable turf trainer.

#8 Only Alleged (6-1) debuts for competent trainer Dean Pederson and he is a profitable 20% with first timers. He sports two straight local gate works for this.

GG 8 (OC-50k/1x, 6f)
Primary – #6 GOOD LOVIN, #4 Eight Clap
Secondary – #8 Halo Rando, #1 Melanie’s Tiger, #7 Valiant Son

Horse Comments:

#6 Good Lovin (6-1) graduated at first asking at Fresno, and landed the place in his next two local starts. He dueled and missed the show by a head in a turf sprint at SA on Jan. 15, and returned to GG and faded to last as the beaten 3-2 favorite on March 22. This is his first start as a gelding and he sports three local works since his last.

#4 Eight Clap (6-1) exits back-to-back wins at SA. He wired the field from the inside post as the favorite in his $40k maiden claiming victory on March 1, and stalked and scored at 60 cents on the dollar four weeks later. Hobson claimed him out of his last start for $32k and he should be all over the pace in his first start on all-weather ground.
