Check out my Black-Eyed Susan Friday (5-17-24) Pimlico Race 11 analysis below.
PIM 11 (The Very One – Purse $100k, f&m, 5T) – Post Time 4:38pm EDT
Primary – #8 ALL THAT MAGIC, #1 Queen of the Mud
Secondary – #2 Hollywood Walk
Horse Comments:
#8 All That Magic (5-1) is 5-for-7 in turf sprints and she handles firm, good, and yielding ground. She is versatile too, and she rallied to win an allowance race at Keeneland last fall under Friday’s rider Luis Saez. This is her first start since rallying for the show in the Autumn Days at Aqueduct (November 2023), and her trainer Kathleen Demasi is 20% with this type of layoff runner.
#1 Queen of the Mud (3-1) has never been in the mud but she sure can run on turf. She stalked and landed the show in her bow, and wired the field second time out. She stalked and beat a next-out winner as the favorite when last seen at Keeneland (October 2023), and her winning rider Flavien Prat stays put. Profitable trainer Graham Motion can strike with a layoff runner and she would not have to get much faster to win this.
#2 Hollywood Walk (20-1) makes her first start in more than eight months. She can pass horses and that is a good thing in a race with multiple early runners, and she might be able to get a piece of this at a big number.
