Check out my Monday (5-20-24) Presque Isle Downs Race 7 analysis below.

Presque Isle 7 (Alw-1x, Purse $32k, 3&up, 6f all-weather track) – Post Time: 5:42pm EDT
Primary – #1 LUV TO WIN, #7 Grande Tortugon
Secondary – #5 Colonel Poppy, #2 Hector, #6 Shy Da Runner, #4 Youmustbea Weasley

Horse Comments:

#1 Luv to Win (7-2) wired the field in an $8k dirt sprint at Oaklawn on April 13 and William Martin claimed him that day. He dueled and weakened in a starter allowance sprint at that same venue on May 4. He is 6-for-18 overall and has struck four times on all-weather ground. This 5-year-old gelding is the inside speed.

#7 Grande Tortugon (5-2) is a 6-time local winner exiting an even effort from an outer post in a turf sprint at Keeneland. He will probably stalk the pace under his new rider Pablo Morales.

#5 Colonel Poppy (9-2) fired exacta show in his last four starts of 2023 and this is his first outing in more than half a year. His local record is solid but he loves settling for the place at this venue (15 2-8-1). He will probably chase the pace from an advantageous middle post.

#2 Hector (5-1) exits an extended sprint win at Tampa Bay, and he fired trifecta shots in all four local attempts last year. The early-pressing sophomore gelding is getting faster and still has upside.

I am not sure what to do with #6 Shy Da Runner (8-1). He returns to the Tim Girten barn and he was the leading trainer at Presque Isle last year. He reconnects with his winning rider Antonio Gallardo and he was second in the local rider standings in 2023. This one captured two local races last year. One was a sprint and one was a route, and both were $25k claiming races. He drilled a local bullet for this on May 9 and might outrun his odds.

#4 Youmustbea Weasley (8-1) is 2-for-26 with fifteen minor awards at Presque Isle. The patient runner can be included underneath at a price.
