Horse Comments:
#4 Raging Torrent (6-1) is a vastly improved sophomore colt for Doug O’Neill. He put blinkers back on and ran off the screen on the Kentucky Derby undercard at this distance on May 4. He proved that race was for real in an easy front running victory in the Maxfield at 7f on June 30, and show finisher World Record romped in his next start in the G2 Amsterdam on July 26.
#6 The Chosen Vron (3-5) is a 19-for-24 CA-bred gelding with 9 wins from his last 10 starts. He brings a 6-race stakes win streak to the table and he has a good record at this course and distance. He returned from a short layoff and easily won the local G1 Bing Crosby at 6f on July 27.
#3 Happy Jack (8-1) dominated the G2 Triple Bend at this distance on June 1. The pace was slow in that 4-horse affair and he dueled and kicked away. He was 4-1 in the Bing Crosby at 6f on July 27 and he raced wide and never got seriously involved. This distance works better for him and he can bounce back if the pace is honest and the track plays fair.
#7 Senor Buscador (5-1) is a classy returnee makes his first start since landing the show in the G1 Dubai World Cup. He is not a sprinter and his connections are using this race as a bridge to such events as the G1 California Crown and G1 BC Classic. He won the G2 San Diego at DMR last summer and should be running late. In addition to this race being too short for him, the main oval has favored speed horses all summer.
