DMR 11 (G2 Del Mar Mile, 8T) – Post Time 9:45 p.m. EDT

Horse Comments:
#8 Conclude (6-1) may have found a spot with a favorable race flow. He attended the pace and won the local Oceanside and Del Mar Derby (G2) last summer. The pace was too strong in his G1 Shoemaker Mile return on May 27, and he was far back early rallied mildly to finish 4th of 11 in the restricted Wickerr last time. His winning rider Hector Berrios strings along and this race has much less early pace, and I would not be surprised if they decided to make the lead in this contest.
#3 Du Jour (8-5) stalked and weakened in the G2 Eddie Read last time and he failed to handle the 1 1/8 miles that day. The flat mile specialist is back at his best trip and he was excellent in the Wickerr and Del Mar Mile (G2) last year, and in the G1 Kilroe Mile earlier this year.
#9 First Peace (3-1) got a perfect setup when he sat in fourth behind above par fractions in the Wickerr on July 21. The reliable colt is probably better sprinting but handles this trip and will probably work out a decent stalking trip.
#4 Almendares (10-1) chose this spot over an optional-claiming turf route on Aug. 29. He was my best bet top choice in the restricted Wickerr on July 21 and he raced in midpack and finished a flat 5th of 11 as the beaten favorite. He won two local turf routes last year and picked up minor awards in three graded turf races (G2 Del Mar Derby, G2 Mathis Mile, G3 Daytona). He stretched back out and returned to his winning course and distance, and he just did not put his best foot forward in a deep contest last time. He will try to get involved late under Fresu.
