#6 Medoro (8-5) always runs her turf race for Peter Eurton. She can stalk or close, and she is 3-for-3 at SA and 2-for-3 at one mile. She could not catch Iscreamuscream in her last two graded turf routes at DMR, and she is back at her winning venue and that rival is not in this race. She sports three local bullets for this.
#10 Watchtower (20-1) was a wide 5th of 12 in her turf route bow at KD and she fired trifecta shots in all five starts since. She won two turf routes for Chad Brown earlier this year and relocated to SoCal and landed the place in her last two optional-claiming turf routes for Richard Baltas. The $310k April 2024 Keeneland sales grad might be able to rally and hit the board at a big price.
#1 Zona Verde (4-1) traded places with Medoro in the G2 Dan Clemente and G1 Del Mar Oaks, and she blew the break and split a 10-horse field in the Unzip Me at 6.5T Sept. 28. I would consider her a win contender if this race was at DMR because she loves that venue, but she is 0-for-6 with two runner-up finishes at SA and I doubt that she can beat Medoro at SA. She can hit the board.
#4 Tahini (10-1) is probably the one to catch for Kent Desormeaux/George Papaprodromou. She went all the way and bested Watchtower in a flat mile optional-claiming affair at DMR Sept. 2, and she stalked and scored at 5T in her maiden win prior to her last. The sharp, improving American Pharoah filly will take them as far as she can.
