#6 Soulmate (6-1) went all the way as the chalk in a synthetic marathon at Woodbine in December. He shipped to Gulfstream and rallied mildly to miss the show by a neck in a flat mile turf race Feb. 8. Tyler Gaffalione is 7-for-16 with Martin Drexler and he might move up on the surface switch in his second start after a short layoff.
#8 Tidal Forces (8-5) stalked and scored as the favorite in a local all-weather route Jan. 3, and was an okay 6th of 11 in a tougher spot at 14-1 odds Jan. 25. The 3-time local winner is 5-for-7 at this distance.
#4 K. C. Chief (5-2) dueled and edged away to win by a length and a half in a local all-weather event at 1 1/8 miles Jan. 24. He captured five of his last eight synthetic routes and should make his presence felt from the outset.
#1 Morgan Point (6-1) had his 3-race win streak snapped when finishing fourth in a local OC-62.5k/2x dirt route Jan. 18, and winner Alexander Helios clicked right back in the Razorback Handicap (G3) at Oaklawn Feb. 23. Carlos Perez shows a profit with horses moving from dirt to synthetic, and a ground saving stalking trip is expected.
