Primary – #3 EPIC RIDE, #2 Montalcino
Secondary – #6 Hoist the Gold, #10 Extra Anejo, #11 Whatchatalkinabout
Horse Comments:
#3 Epic Ride (6-1) exits back-to-back sharp wins in all-weather sprints at TP. He is 4-for-7 with a trio of runner-up finishes on synthetic, and 0-for-4 with two local show finishes on dirt. He was third in the G1 Blue Grass last spring and third in the Perryville last fall. He owns early-pressing versatility and Luan Machado is 2-for-2 with him.
#2 Montalcino (3-1) is 3-for-4 with a head defeat and the fresh colt is 2-for-2 at seven panels. He should be all over the pace for Jose Ortiz/Cherie DeVaux.
#6 Hoist the Gold (9-2) won the G2 Phoenix (KEE) and G2 Cigar Mile in 2023, and lost his form after shipping to Saudi Arabia last year. He returned from a layoff and got back on track in an optional-claiming sprint win as the favorite at FG Feb. 13. He is 3 1-2-0 at KEE and 1-for-8 with five minor placings at seven panels.
#10 Extra Anejo (8-1) is a fragile 5-year-old with a 4-for-8 record. When he is good, he is very good, and he runs well fresh (first start since September 2024). Let’s look deeper at his record. He won his MSW bow and is 3-for-4 with a runner-up finish in the optional-claiming ranks. In a trio of stakes tries, he was 4th in the G1 Haskell, 7th in the Hanshin, and 4th in the G3 West Virginia Governor’s. Flavien Prat takes the call and he drilled a 5f bullet for this March 20.
#11 Whatchatalkinabout (4-1) is a NY-bred gelding with six trifecta finishes from as many starts, and he earned a big number in a state bred sprint win at AQU Jan. 16. The NY-bred stakes winner tries open company for the first time and projects an outside stalking trip under Irad Ortiz, Jr.
