My former top ranked Kentucky Oaks 2025 contender Muhimma will skip the big race on the first Friday in May. She had accumulated enough points to run but her trainer Brad Cox decided to regroup after back-to-back show finishes as the beaten favorite in the Honeybee (G3) and Ashland (G1). Her defection allows Anna’s Promise into the Oaks field. In this report, I will update the Oaks points standings and share my latest top five Oaks contenders.

I covered all of the road to Kentucky Oaks prep races on my YouTube Channel, and through all 32 points races, my top choices had 15 wins, 4 runner-up finishes, and 4 show finishes. Two of my top choices scratched, so I was officially 15-for-30 on the road to the Oaks.

Jarrod Horak’s Fabulous Five Kentucky Oaks 2025 Contenders (4-17-25)

#1 – Good Cheer (Medaglia d’Oro – Wedding Toast, by Street Sense) – Trainer: Brad Cox – Last Ranking (1)

Comments: The solid Oaks favorite will try to run her record to 7-for-7 on May 2 at Churchill. She has breezed three times under the Twin Spires since her victory in the FG Oaks (G2) including a five panel bullet in 59.40 (1/10) on April 17.

#2 Quietside (Malibu Moon – Benner Island, by Speightstown) Trainer: John Ortiz – Last Ranking (2)

Comments: She seemed to turn the corner in her last two wins. Before those victories in the Honeybee (G3) and Fantasy (G2), she enjoyed picking up minor awards in the stakes ranks. She proved that she could handle the Churchill oval with a runner-up finish in the Golden Rod (G2) last fall.

#3 – Ballerina d’Oro (Medaglia d’Oro – In the Moonlight, by Tapit) – Trainer: Chad Brown – Last Ranking (3)

Comments: I really thought that she was sitting on a new top in the Gazelle (G3), and she looked poised to win by open lengths turning for home, but she lugged in and just did prevail. She has the raw talent to win the Oaks but will need to put all of her bad habits behind her prior to her next start at Churchill Downs.

#4 – Tenma  (Nyquist – Amagansett, by Tapit) – Trainer: Bob Baffert – Last Ranking (4)

Comments: I was expecting her to earn a better number in the SA Oaks (G2). She had two months to recover from a career top in the Las Virgenes (G3), and she did get the job done last time but had to work harder than expected against a lackluster group. She will need to get back to her best to win at Churchill.

#5 – La Cara (Street Sense – Cara Caterina, by Bernardini) – Trainer: Mark Casse  – Last Ranking (6)

Comments: She moves up one spot and replaces Muhimma after that one dropped out of Oaks consideration. This one captured three points races. She won the Pocahontas (G3) at Churchill last September, and that was the first Oaks points race. In a trio of starts this year, she wired the field in her Suncoast return, just held the place in the Davona Dale (G2), and went all the way in the Grade 1 Ashland. She is versatile but seems best when she can get out there and set the pace.

Next Nine: (6) Five G, (7) Drexel Hill, (8) Simply Joking, (9) Bless the Broken, (10) Fondly, (11) Take Charge Milady, (12) Early On, (13) Anna’s Promise, (14) Gowells Delight
