This a win and you’re in for the Preakness. #4 Tiz Secure (9-2) stalked and graduated by 4 3/4 lengths in his 6f bow at SA and the 2-3 finishers were next-out winners. He stretched out, moved to turf, and stalked the pace and finished an even 4th of 6 in the Pasadena at 8T second time out (blinkers off). He had a quick turnaround last time (15-days), and has much better spacing with 41-days between starts. He is back on dirt and his aggressive new pilot Edwin Maldonado figures to put him on the lead in a race lacking front end speed.
#2 Caldera (15-1) ran too good to lose in the Sunland Derby, and stumbled at the start and grabbed a quarter when finishing up the track in the G2 LA Derby March 22. He reconnects with his winning rider Rafael Bejarano and a stalking trip is expected.
#7 Instant Replay (4-5) rallied for the show in the G2 LA Derby at 9.5f March 22 and the race flow was in his favor. Flavien Prat takes the call and he is a logical contender from off the pace for Brad Cox, but 4-5 is too low to accept on the win end.
#1 Hymn (4-1) looked good stalking and scoring as the favorite in his 6f bow at OP Feb. 8. He was the favorite again in a local route March 14 and Passion Rules beat him and returned to land the show in the G2 Wood Memorial. He adds blinkers and might try to get forward from the inside post under his new rider Luis Saez.
