Check out my Saturday (5-3-25) Churchill Downs Race 6 analysis below.

CD 6 (G2 Pat Day Mile, 8f) – Post Time 1:53 PM ET
Primary – #5 GATE TO WIRE, #2 Built
Secondary – #1 Madaket Road, #6 Gaming

Horse Comments:

#5 Gate to Wire (6-1) moved to dirt and stalked and dominated the Swale at 7f Feb. 1, and 2-3 finishers Macho Music and Gunmetal were both next-out winners. This one stretched out, stalked from the inside post, and was a fading 5th of 6 in the G2 FOY March 1. Turning back in distance is a good thing and he should stalk the pace while out in the clear.

#2 Built (7-2) might be ready to shine in this shorter event. He graduated at seven panels second time out, and crawled on the front end and stole the Gun Runner at 1 1/16 miles in December. He stalked from post 12 and missed by a neck in the slop in the G3 Lecomte, and stalked the pace and missed the place by a head in the G2 Risen Star at 9f. Last time, he added blinkers, stalked, bid, and weakened to 5th of 10 in the G2 LA Derby at 1 3/16 miles March 22, and show finisher Instant Replay returned to win the Bath House Row at OP. He sports three local works for this including a 5f bullet April 24, and Umberto Rispoli is his new rider.

#1 Madaket Road (2-1) is in the right spot after running out of gas in the G1 Florida Derby at a mile and an eighth. He ran well in his first four starts. He was clearly second best in his 7f bow in the G3 Bob Hope, and he stalked and graduated in a MSW sprint second time out. He stretched out and was best of the rest in third behind his stablemates Citizen Bull and Rodriguez in the G3 Robert Lewis Feb. 1, and he shipped to OP, set a fast pace, and held the place by a half-length in the G2 Rebel Feb. 23. I like his early-pressing versatility and he reconnects with his Rebel pilot Irad Ortiz, Jr. The $650k Quality Road colt fired a half-mile bullet for this at SA April 12.

#6 Gaming (3-1) has not moved forward this year after such a promising juvenile campaign. He won the G1 Del Mar Futurity last year and was clearly second best in the G1 BC Juvenile. Cracks started in emerge after that. He was a flat third as the 1-2 favorite in the G2 Los Al Futurity, and had early trouble and never picked up his feet in the G3 Southwest. He dropped in class and was the even money favorite in the Hot Springs at one mile around two turns March 30, and he chased my top choice Clever Again and was clearly second best. The fast morning worker fired two bullets prior to the Hot Springs and sports a pair of bullets for this. He is 2-for-2 around one turn.
