Check out my Friday (6-6-25) Saratoga Race 9 analysis below.
SAR 9 (G1 Ogden Phipps, 9f) – Post Time 4:28 PM ET
Primary – #7 RANDOMIZED, #4 Raging Sea
Secondary – #3 Leslie’s Rose, #6 Tarifa, #5 Candied
Horse Comments:
#7 Randomized (9-2) is dangerous on the front end and she is 3-for-5 at SAR. She wired the field in the local Wilton and G1 Alabama in 2023, and went all the way in the G2 Beldame and was second in the G1 BC Distaff. Last year, she was second in the G2 Ruffian and first in the G1 Ogden Phipps, and got cooked in a duel in the G1 Personal Ensign (beaten 15 lengths). She was off for 8+ months and set the pace and finished a close third behind her stablemate Raging Sea in the G1 La Troienne May 2. Chad Brown shows a +ROI in the graded ranks and with his second after a layoff starters, and he has two solid win contenders in this race.
#4 Raging Sea (5-2) won seven of her last ten starts and six of those were graded victories. The 3-time local winner won the G2 Shuvee and G1 Personal Ensign at SAR last summer, and won the G2 Beldame and was clearly second best in the G1 BC Distaff. She returned from a layoff and won as my 4-1 top choice in the G1 La Troienne at CD May 2. She is 5-for-8 with two runner-up finishes at 9f and Flavien Prat figures to put her in a decent stalking spot.
#3 Leslie’s Rose (7-2) finished a close third in her sprint return in the G3 Vagrancy May 4, and runner-up R Disaster won the Rehoboth by 6 1/2 lengths as the 1-2 favorite at DEL May 31. She won the G1 Ashland at 1 1/6 miles last year so we know she can route, but a mile and an eighth might be out of reach. She is 0-for-3 at 9f with her best effort a runner-up finish behind Thorpedo Anna in the G1 Acorn last June.
#6 Tarifa (9-2) only ran one bad race since January 2024 and that poor effort was in the slop in the G1 Ky Oaks last year. She wired the field in the G2 Mother Goose at this distance last year and hit the board in all three graded starts since. This is her third start of the year and she needs to run faster.
#5 Candied (3-1) does not always change leads and is not the smoothest mover, but she is usually in the mix. Her last two stakes wins were in the Lady’s Secret (June 2024) and DuPont (May 2025) and she was supposed to win those races as the chalk. She ran well in all three local starts and all four starts at this trip. I like her more underneath.
