Check out my Saturday (7-5-25) Saratoga Race Course Race 10 analysis below.
SAR 10 (G3 Kelso, 8f inner turf) – Post Time 5:38 PM ET
Primary – #2 INTELLECT, #4 Donegal Momentum
Secondary – #5 Nantasket Beach, #3 Think Big, #1 Neat
Horse Comments:
#2 Intellect (3-1) rallied from post 10 and was floated wide around the far turn, and he continued on and missed the place by a nose in a decent show finish in his US bow at KEE April 24. Stalking types finished 1-2 and he did well to land the show under Flavien Prat. That was also his first start in a year. He was my top choice in the G3 Poker on June 5 and he rallied for the place as the favorite behind Donegal Momentum. This is his third start after a long layoff and Prat sticks with Chad Brown’s 4-year-old gelding. He ran his final 1/4 in 22 and change last time.
#4 Donegal Momentum (5-2) is 4-for-6 with a second and a third on turf. Last year, he wired the field in the Gio Ponti and set a pressured pace and was third by a length in the G1 Hollywood Derby. He stalked and scored in an OC-80k/3x affair at FG in his March 6 return, and turned back, moved to dirt, and was 5th of 7 in the G2 Carter. He was back in a preferred turf route May 8 and he battled on the pace and missed by a half-length (clearly second best). He controlled the pace and won the G3 Poker June 5 and that was his second win from as many starts at SAR. The sharp early-pressing colt is 3-for-4 with a runner-up finish at 8T, and he should be forwardly placed in a race lacking front end speed.
#5 Nantasket Beach (10-1) is a decent performer against lesser company and we will see if he can step up and be competitive in the stakes ranks. He fired trifecta shots in nine of his last ten starts and won six of those races. He is 4-for-5 this year and 5-for-6 with a show finish at this distance.
#3 Think Big (7-2) tries a turf route. All five of his career wins were around one turn including four stakes victories at 5.5T. He won the G2 Shakertown and G2 Twin Spires Turf this spring, and broke slow and disappointed as the beaten favorite in the G1 Jaipur June 8. He rates a look if he handles one mile.
#1 Neat (15-1) had all sorts of trouble in the Henry Clark and he was uncomfortable and pulled up in the G3 Dinner Party. He won four races last year and reconnects with his winning rider Alvarado. He figures to save ground behind the speed and he fits with these on his best day.
