#7 Life Advice (9-2) returned from a layoff of 6+ months and set the pace and missed by a half-length in a clear runner-up finish in a turf route at CD April 26. That was a relatively fast race, and she was the favorite in an $80k/2L turf route May 29, and she chased strong fractions and threw in the towel (8th beaten 14 lengths). She bounced last time and might rebound under Jose Ortiz in her third start after a long layoff. The pace is murky and she might be the one to catch.
#3 Downtown Channel (5-1) was vanned off following her local 2023 debut at one mile (off the turf). She returned from a layoff of 9+ months and graduated at 21-1 odds in a local turf route (June 2024), and misfired in her next two local turf routes. She stalked and landed the place in a turf route at Aqueduct last September, and went to the sidelines after finishing a wide 8th of 12 from post 10 in October. She adds lasix and we know that she can fire a fresh shot.
#1 Competitive Threat (3-1) hit the board in three of her first four MSW routes (beaten favorite twice), and she dropped into a Mcl-50k affair, cut back from 11T to 8.5T, and chased from post 11 and graduated by a neck as the favorite. Flavien Prat got to know her last time and he wins races with Chad Brown.
#4 Leslie’s Star (7-2) dropped into a maiden claiming turf route on June 21 and she stalked and graduated by 3/4ths of a length. Irad Ortiz, Jr. takes the call and Linda Rice is 22% first after the claim.
#2 Aviso (9-2) is 0-for-4 on turf and 1-for-4 on dirt, and I am not sure about her preferred footing (turf, dirt, slop). Based on the numbers, she is faster on dirt, but I will not completely dismiss her in a competitive heat.
