Horse Comments:
#7 Bran (5-1) was part of the trifecta in ten of his last eleven starts and he won four of those races (3 stakes races). He won an OC affair at this course and distance last summer, and set a pressured pace and missed by a half-length in the Siren Lure May 10 (first start in 9+ months). I made him my top choice in the G3 Daytona at 6.5T June 14 and he landed the place behind talented favorite Motorious. He stretches back out in his third start of the year and will probably stalk the pace. He reconnects with Vincent Cheminaud and this pilot guided him to a runner-up finish in a G2 turf sprint at CD in 2022, and a victory in a G2 turf sprint at KD that same year.
#11 Endlessly (6-1) won half of his ten starts and he is 2-for-2 at DMR and 3-for-5 with a show finish at 8T. He adds blinkers and will try to get involved late under his new rider Hector Berrios in his third start of the year.
#9 Almendares (6-1) owns some of the best late pace ratings in the field. The 2-time local winner missed by a nose in the G2 Mathis Mile in 2023, and he hit the board in the G3 Daytona (3rd), G2 Del Mar Mile (2nd), and G2 City of Hope Mile (2nd) in 2024. He returned from a layoff and missed by less than a length when finishing 4th of 7 in the G1 Kilroe Mile March 1. Cabo Spirit was third in the Kilroe and he won G3 American Stakes April 20. He was 5th of 11 as the beaten favorite in this event last year.
#3 Beyond Brilliant (7-2) obviously had something go very wrong because this is his first start since November 2022. He won the G1 Hollywood Derby in 2021 and the G2 Whittingham and G2 City of Hope Mile in 2022. He is 2-for-4 with a runner-up finish at DMR and 1-for-3 at 8T. He should be forwardly placed in a race that he might need.
#1 Watsonville (20-1) was just out for the exercise when finishing 5th of 6 in the G3 Daytona at 6.5T June 14. That was his first start in 9+ months and the 2-time local winner is 2-for-3 at 8T. He won the G2 Mathis Mile at this distance in 2023.
