Check out my Sunday (8-3-25) Del Mar Race 7 analysis below.
DMR 7 (La Jolla Handicap, 8.5T) – Post Time 8:03 PM ET
Primary – #6 THE PADRE
Secondary – #3 Freedom’s Not Free, #1 Game Warrior
Horse Comments:
#6 The Padre (3-1) won his all-weather route bow over a dozen foes at 33-1 odds in Ireland Jan. 29. He moved to the Phil D’Amato barn and ran on nicely for the place in an OC-100k/1x affair at 8T June 13, and show finisher Game Warrior returned to upset the Oceanside on opening day. Dam has produced seven turf winners and Umberto Rispoli takes over for Antonio Fresu. He earned a quality late pace rating last time and might run past this group.
#3 Freedom’s Not Free (9-5) pressed and scored as the favorite in the Pasadena and Cinema at 8T earlier this year. He shipped to CD and had a clear pace edge vs. four foes in the American Derby. He was in control (25.71, 50.74, 1:14.75) but was outkicked in the stretch and just held the show. There is not much pace in this race either bot I do not trust him to hold off my top choice. He fired a local 5f turf bullet for this July 27 and Antonio Fresu chose him over The Padre.
#1 Game Warrior (7-2) is a 2-time local turf route winner exiting a closing win in the Oceanside. He should save ground behind the speed before launching his rally under sharp turf rider Hector Berrios. I liked him to hit the board last time and feel the same way in this event.
