Check out my Friday (8-8-25) Del Mar Race 7 analysis below.
DMR 7 (Graduation, 5f) – Post Time 10:00 PM ET
Primary – #4 SAMMY DAVIS, #6 Hero Or Zero
Secondary – #1 What’s a Good Name
Horse Comments:
#4 Sammy Davis (9-5) looked good wiring the field as the favorite in his course/distance bow July 18. Dam Ready for Romance won her first three career starts including the Ontario Damsel Stakes at Woodbine in 2015. He has a relatively fast win over the local oval, worked 4f on Aug 2, and should be all over the pace for the productive Hector Berrios/John Sadler team.
#6 Hero Or Zero (8-5) was the favorite from post 10 in his SA bow at this distance June 15 and he dueled on the lead and kicked away to graduate by 6 1/2 lengths. That was a fast race and he has had plenty of time to recover. Doug O’Neill’s Pavel colt drew outside the other speed, sports three local works for this, and could easily win again under Umberto Rispoli.
#1 What’s a Good Name (6-1) was entered in the CTBA on August. 3 but scratched and goes here instead. She was an even 5th of 9 in her 4.5f bow for Steve Asmussen at CD June 6. She moved to the Peter Miller barn and improved nicely in a local wire job from the inside post July 19 (blinkers on). Juan Hernandez rides back and he is 6-for-15 with this outfit recently. Dam has produced five winners from six starters (2 stakes winners).
