Check out my Friday (8-15-25) Del Mar Race 6 analysis below.
DMR 6 (CTT and TOC, 11T) – Post Time 8:32 PM ET
Primary – #4 SUNSET GLORY, #3 Mrs. Astor
Secondary – #6 Kentucky Gal, #7 Starry Heavens, #10 Alpha Bella
Horse Comments:
#4 Sunset Glory (5-1) won this race last year and was up the track in her next two graded turf routes (G2 Rodeo Drive, G1 BC F&M Turf). She returned with an optional-claiming win at 8T June 6 and made a wide early move from an outer post before flattening out in the local Osunitas at 8T on July 20. Her last effort was just a prep for this and she might bounce back in her third start after a layoff.
#3 Mrs. Astor (5-2) has been in great form since winning the Red Carpet (G3) at this course/distance last November. She won the G3 Robert Frankel in December and landed the place in the G3 Santa Ana in March. She cruised to a big win in the Santa Barbara at 12T in May and got up by a nose as the favorite in the Possibly Perfect at 10T when last seen on June 14. The sharp, fresh mare could easily rally for the win as the favorite under Umberto Rispoli.
#6 Kentucky Gal (4-1) never got a breather from the inside post in the Possibly Perfect at 10T on June 14. She was pressured on the lead every step of the way and ended up 4th of 6 (beaten 1/2 length). Juan Hernandez knows her now and she gets a more comfortable post, and she sports four local turf moves for this.
#7 Starry Heavens (6-1) was third in the G3 Santa Ana and Possibly Perfect at 10T, and second in the Santa Barbara (12T). Antonio Fresu stays put and she shows four local turf works for this.
#10 Alpha Bella (15-1) threw in a clunker in the G2 Santa Margarita on dirt May 25 (beaten 26 lengths), and was an even 5th of 11 (beaten 2.5 lengths) in the Osunitas at 8T on July 20. Before that, she landed the place in the G3 Wilshire at 8T and was second in the G3 La Canada. She also landed the place in the G2 Zenyatta and G3 Bayakoa last year. In 2023, she was second in the G3 Sweetest Chant (8.5T) and G3 Florida Oaks (8.5T), and third in the Virginia Oaks (9T) and listed Tropical Park Oaks (8.5T). She started 2024 with a victory in the G3 La Prevoyante (12T) and was second in the Miss Liberty (8.5T). John Sadler’s mare reunites with Hector Berrios and he guided her to runner-up finishes in the Zenyatta and Bayakoa last year.
