Horse Comments:
#5 Medoro (6-1) is 5-for-10 with five minor placings on turf. She returned from a layoff of 6+ months and stalked and scored in the local Osunitas at 8T July 20, and runner-up Grand Slam Smile returned to win the Solana Beach on Aug. 17. She was the favorite in the local G2 John C. Mabee at 9T on Sept. 6 and she landed the place behind my top choice Gimme a Nother, and show finisher Mission of Joy returned to win the G2 Rodeo Drive Oct. 4. Umberto Rispoli should have her in a decent stalking spot and she likes this course (5 2-2-1) and distance (5 3-1-1).
#3 Special Wan (2-1) is lightly raced this year. She won the G3 Honey Fox in March and finished third in the G1 Just a Game in June (runner-up Excellent Truth next-out G1 Diana winner). She exits a half-length win as the favorite in a G3 at KD when last seen Aug. 30. Her only off the board finish in her career was a 7th of 11 in the G1 First Lady in 2024. She is 3-for-5 with a show finish at 8T. Her winning rider Joel Rosario stays put and she should be in hailing distance of the early leaders. She owns the best class ratings.
#2 Deep Satin (7-2) always gives a good account of herself (1-2 in 7 of 9 starts). She was stuck in post 11 and raced wide and missed by a half-length at 27-1 odds Oct. 4, and was second from the outside post as the favorite in the G2 Ballston Spa Aug. 8. She saved ground from an inner post and captured the De la Rose at SAR on July 10 and that is kind of trip I am expecting here. Irad Ortiz, Jr. is her pilot and a tactical trip is expected.
#9 Breath Away (8-1) won her last two stakes starts at MTH and WO. She enjoys this distance (9 3-2-2) and Flavien Prat takes the call.
