Check out my Monday (11-24-25) Del Mar Race 9 analysis below.

Scratches (race 9):
#3 – Defiance, #13 – Runamileinmyshoes, #14 – Take Another Card

Updated Tickets After Scratches:

DMR 9 (OC-50k/1x, 8T) – 7:30 PM ET
Primary – #4 AMBAYA
Secondary – #6 Eternal Reign, #1 The Mizen Queen, #9 She’s a Joker

Horse Comments:

#4 Ambaya (5-2) fired in all four turf starts. She rallied from 10th to graduate in her career debut at 12-1 odds June 12 (MSW – 8T – IND). She was the favorite in an allowance turf route at CNL second time out and she missed by a nose. She was 4-1 in the Christiana at DEL Sept. 27 and she was an even third (slow early/fast late). Last time, she shipped to DMR and missed by a nose at 8T and The Mizzen Queen was third. She improved her numbers last time and is a logical contender.

#6 Eternal Reign (4-1) chased, led, and weakened to 4th of 7 at 10T Oct. 19. She adds blinkers and cuts back two furlongs, and Juan Hernandez strings along. The 1-for-11 filly fired trifecta shots in eight of her last ten starts.

#1 The Mizen Queen (8-1) returned from a layoff of 6+ months and finished 2nd of 15 (beaten 1/2 length) at 9-2 odds at 8T on April 5. Dan Blacker took over as her trainer and she made her first start in this country on Aug. 16, and she had an uncomfortable trip and earned a decent late pace rating in a rallying runner-up finish. She was the favorite in a local MSW affair at 8T and rallied to win that race as the favorite. She stalked the pace and finished an okay 3rd of 10 in a local 3-year-old OC-80k/1x turf route Oct. 30. Sharp turf rider Hector Berrios sticks with her and Blacker is a profitable 22% with his allowance runners.

#9 She’s a Joker (10-1) rallied for the show at 3-1 odds in a similar flat mile turf race at SA Oct. 3, and she was an okay 4th of 8 (beaten 1 length) in an OC-50k/1x turf route. Last time, she missed by a nose in a local CA-bred OC-20k/1x affair. She rallied to win a local Clm-25k turf route last summer and is 0-for-8 with four minor placings since. She is 0-for-9 with two runner-up finishes and three show finishes at 8T.
