Check out my Saturday (4-4-26) Santa Anita Park Race 6 analysis below.
SA 6 (G2 SA Oaks, 8.5f) – Post Time 5:42 PM ET (Kentucky Oaks Points Race)
Primary – #5 MEANING
Secondary – #1 Forced Entry, #3 French Blue, #7 Brooklyn Blonde
Horse Comments:
#5 Meaning (3-5) was strong as the chalk in her LRC sprint bow last September. She was thrown to the wolves in the G1 BC Juvenile Fillies second time out and stalked the pace and missed the show by a head in a solid effort (beaten 3.75 lengths). Michael McCarthy’s $440k Gun Runner filly returned in the Las Virgenes Feb. 8 and ran down Explora in the lane as my top choice, and the latter returned to win the G3 Honeybee at OP. She is all upside and her new rider Juan Hernandez chose her over Forced Entry.
#1 Forced Entry (4-1) was 7-1 in her 6T bow and she dueled from the inside post and weakened to last of 10. She stretched out, moved to dirt, and easily went all the way in a local MSW affair at one mile Feb. 1. Juan Hernandez chose her over French Blue in the G3 Santa Ysabel March 8 and she stalked the pace and was best by 1 3/4 lengths. Mike Smith is her new rider and Bob Baffert’s $375k Charlatan filly figures to save ground from the inside post.
#3 French Blue (5-1) was 60 cents on the dollar in her local 6f bow Jan. 8 and she pressed from post 10 and won by 2 1/4 lengths under Juan Hernandez, and show finisher Piney Woods was a next-out winner. Bob Baffert’s Gun Runner filly stretched out, set the pace, and was best of the rest in third in the G3 Santa Ysabel March 8. She might go a bit better in her second route start.
#7 Brooklyn Blonde (6-1) improved her speed ratings in all three MSW starts. Michael McCarthy’s $510k Gun Runner filly stretched out, pressed the pace, and won by a length and a quarter as the favorite at one mile March 1. Her winning rider Kazushi Kimura is 4-for-18 with this barn and the number she earned last time puts her in the mix.
#2 Bank Shot (20-1) added lasix and wired the field in a local flat mile MSW event Jan. 2. She was 28-1 in the Las Virgenes at one mile on Feb. 8 and she was a clear 3rd of 4. She stalked the pace and was second best at 22-1 odds in the G3 Sanya Ysabel last time. She is slowly getting faster and can hit the board if she continues to improve.
#4 Hypergamy (20-1) is a surface switcher for the productive Emisael Jaramillo/Doug O’Neill team. She set the pace and held the place in the China Doll at 8T March 8.
#6 Red Cherry (30-1) stretched out after two sprints and smartly went all the way in a local MSW turf route Feb. 28. She is getting faster and John Sadler is 20% with his turf/dirt starters.
