Santa Anita Recap for Saturday (6-13-20)

Fast main track and firm turf course. One dueling front running winner at six furlongs on dirt. The turf course winners were two front runners at 5.5 furlongs, and a stalker at one mile (rail at 20 feet).

Flavien Prat booted home a pair. Mark Glatt saddled a pair of winners.

The Rainbow 6 pool was $180,811 and multiple winning tickets paid $250.04 each. There will be a jackpot carryover of $854,903 when live racing resumes Sunday, June 14.

Thor’s Echo Stakes Recap (6-13-20) – Winner: Tiger Dad ($7.60)

Desert Law was not at his best in his first start after a layoff, and his stablemate Tiger Dad definitely took up the slack. The latter dueled with Principe Carlo, and it was a match race throughout. Tiger Dad was inside and edged clear late to score by a bit less than a length. Principe Carlo was a solid 2nd and Desert Law was up for 3rd late. Loud Mouth was next and Oliver trailed.

Angels Flight Stakes Recap (6-13-20) – Winner: Gingham ($5.40)

Gingham sure appreciated the turn back in distance. Biddy Duke was out there on the front end as expected, and the two chasers got tired and faded. That left the two favorites to take up the chase, and they did just that. Been Studying Her made the first move and was just about home free, but Gingham made the last move and finished full of run to win by a length. Been Studying Her was clearly second best and Biddy Duke checked in a solid 3rd. High On Gin and Praise and Honor weakened.

June 13 Claims: Race 7 – Blazing Charm ($50k, Thomas Ray Bell II). Race 9 – Dark Hedges ($16k, Mark Glatt), More Honor ($16k, Hector Palma).

Santa Anita Recap for Sunday (6-14-20)

Fast main track and firm turf course. Three front running winners on dirt (4.5f, 8.5f, 6.5f). The turf course winners were a last-to-first closer at one mile, a front runner at 5.5 furlongs, a stalker at 5.5 furlongs, a front runner at a mile and an eighth, and a patient runner at a mile and a quarter (rail at 10 feet).

Flavien Prat guided home four more winners. Abel Cedillo booted home a pair. Richard Mandella saddled the late double and Prat rode both.

Possibly Perfect Stakes Recap (6-14-20) – Winner: Dogtag ($3.60)

Dogtag was the best horse on paper. The only question was the mile and a quarter distance, and she passed the stamina test with flying colors. My value top pick Desert Oasis tried to steal this race from the hedge, and she was in front for a mile or so, but Dogtag made a wide move and swept right on by en route to sharp length and a quarter victory. Late runners Don’t Blame Judy and Pretty Point battled for runner-up honors, and the former garnered the place by a head. Desert Oasis weakened to 4th and was followed by Strike At Dawn, Streak of Luck, and Out of Balance.

The Rainbow 6 pool was $303,173 and multiple winning tickets paid $1,805.96 each. There will be a jackpot carryover of $924,314 when live racing resumes Friday, June 19.

June 14 Claims: Race 3 – Summer Fire ($50k, Peter Miller). Race 7 – Sabinos Pride ($25k, Jorge Periban), Smiling Rose ($25k, Ronald Ellis). Race 8 – Show Business ($20k, Steve Knapp).
