I don’t know how Ax Man ended up the favorite in this race. The bettors have been hammering Baffert trainees this week and were burned again in this spot. Captain Scotty blazed the way early and Wildman Jack was glued to him. The former folded and O’Neill’s gelding burst to the front and cruised to an easy 4+ length victory under Cedillo. My value top choice Shashashakemeup picked up the place spot and Pyron finished nicely for the show. Ax Man, Captain Scotty, Take the One O One, Shooters Shoot, and Kneedeepinsnow rounded out the order of finish.

Gregorian Chant (GB) finished full of run and won going away by 2-1/4 lengths. His stablemate Strike Me Down nipped Thanks Mr. Eidson for the runner-up spot, and Real News completed the superfecta. Ghoul (BRZ) was next, followed by Oiseau de Guerre, Strongconstitution, and Mr. Vargas.
