Fast main track and firm turf course. Font runners won all three dirt sprints (4.5f, 4.5f, 6f), and a presser won the lone dirt route (8f). On the turf course, a stalker won the flat mile opener, a front runner tallied at 6f, a stalker scored at 12f, a front runner won at 6.5f, and a front runner and a stalker finished in a dead-heat for the win in the flat mile finale (rail at 10 feet).
Hat trick for Juan Hernandez. Turf riding double for Diego Herrera. On the trainer side of the ledger, Walther Solis saddled a pair of MSW debut juvenile winners at 4.5f on dirt., and Stay Thirsty sired both.
Santa Anita Stakes Recaps for 5-14-22
Santa Barbara (G3): This was a match race on paper and it played out that way. Post time favorite Queen Goddess set the pace from the rail as expected, but Cover Version and Carpe Vinum made her work for it. My best bet top choice Neige Blanche ($4.80) was in a perfect spot inside and behind the speed, and she tipped out, came after Queen Goddess in the lane, and got past that one late to score by a length and a quarter. She is now 3-for-3 at 12f. Queen Goddess was clearly second best and Queen of the Temple rallied to finish best of the rest. Carpe Vinum and Cover Version trailed. The final time was 2:27.55.
The 20 cent Rainbow 6 pool was $158,882, and multiple tickets with six winners paid $1,687.00. The jackpot carryover stands at $304,937.
