Fast main track and firm turf course. One front running winner at 6f on dirt. On the turf course, a front running 2yo graduated at 5f, a stalking favorite scored at 5f, and a closing 2yo first timer earned his diploma in the flat mile finale (rail at 24 feet).

Ryan Curatolo and Edwin Maldonado both booted home a pair.

Del Mar Recap for Friday (8-12-22)

Fast main track and firm turf course. One front running winner act 6f on dirt. The other two dirt winners pounced from 2nd. On the turf course, a closing favorite graduated in the 8f opener, a last-to-first closer sprung an upset at 8f, a stalker smartly earned her diploma at 5f, and a closer finished fast to score at one mile (rail at 24 feet).

Armando Ayuso (dirt sprints), Juan Hernandez, and Mike Smith (turf) each booted home a pair.

Graduation Stakes (CA-bred, 5.5f): Straighten Up was a bit too fast for his own good in the early going. He went 21.90 and 44.82, and was out there by himself. It looked like he might go all the way turning for home, but The Big Wam ($3.40) was finding his best stride after some early trouble. He rallied wide and got up by a length under Juan Hernandez. Straighten Up was clearly second best and Good N Thirsty rallied to finish a clear 3rd. Hacking It Up, Strength of Autism, Man Oh Man, Whobeterthantiger, and Early Release also ran. The final time was 1:04.59.

August 12 Claims: Race 2 – Big Flame ($20k, Victor Trujillo), Funkenstein ($20k, Craig Dollase), Perfect Cut ($20k, Steve Miyadi), Stone’s River ($20k, Reid France). Del Mar Recap for Saturday (8-13-22)

Fast main track and firm turf course. Two front running sprint winners on dirt (5.5f, 6.5f). Outside closers were strong early in the day. On the turf course, two closing favorites tallied at one mile, a stalking favorite won the Yellow Ribbon (G2) at 8.5f, and an 8-1 closer graduated in the 8.5f finale (rail at 12 feet).

Three turf route wins for Umberto Rispoli. Riding doubles for Joe Bravo and Juan Hernandez (dirt sprint first timers). Mark Glatt saddled three winners and Rispoli rode two.

Del Mar Stakes Recaps for 8-13-22

Yellow Ribbon (G2): Going Global ($3.40) was clearly best. She stalked inside under Rispoli, and she moved up outside and pulled clear to score by three lengths. Avenue de France (FR) rallied to finish a clear 2nd and Javanica set the pace and held 3rd by a head over Burgoo Alley (IRE). Rocking Redhead, Flippant, and Park Avenue also ran. The final time for 8.5f was 1:41.18.

Sorrento (G2): Procrastination had no excuses as the strong favorite, She got to the front from the inside post and held a length lead, but she never pulled away and Vegas Magic ($31.40) chased and wore down the chalk to score by a length and a quarter. Dazzlingdominika was best of the rest in 3rd. The final time was 1:11.46.

August 13 Claims: Race 4 – Count On Amazonia ($50k, Bob Hess Jr.), Neptune’s Storm ($50k, Doug O’Neill), Shadow Sphinx ($50k, Peter Miller). Race 5 – Heaven’s Music ($16k, Hector Palma), Superman Shaq ($16k, Adan Farias), Tom Bombadil ($16k, Lorenzo Ruiz).

The 20 cent Rainbow 6 pool was $352,165, and multiple tickets with six winners paid $6,772.22. The jackpot carryover stands at $237,759.

Del Mar Recap for Sunday (8-14-22)

Fast main track and firm turf course. Three front running winners at 6f on dirt. The other two dirt sprint winners pressed the pace. On the turf course, a 5-1 stalker won the flat mile opener, a front running favorite scored at 5f, a stalking favorite tallied at 5f, a closing favorite won at 8.5f, and a 7-1 stalker was triumphant in the flat mile finale (rail at 12 feet).

Leading rider Juan Hernandez booted home four more winners. Two were turf routes, one was a turf sprint, and the other was the Best Pal (G3) at 6f on dirt. Two dirt sprint wins for Ramon Vazquez. Trainer Peter Miller saddled two dirt sprint maiden winners.

Del Mar Stakes Recaps for 8-14-22

Best Pal (G3): Solid favorite Havnameltdown ($3.00) was clearly best. He battled early, shook off his pace rivals, got clear and won by a comfortable 2-1/2 lengths for Hernandez and Baffert. Agency stalked wide and made a menacing bid but could not match strides with the winner in the lane in a clear runner-up finish. Man Child was all over the pace and was best of the rest in 3rd. Pop d’Oro rallied from last complete the superfecta after stumbling at the start. The final time for 6f was 1:10.22.

August 14 Claims: Race 3 – Meetmeattheclub ($25k, Adam Kitchingman), Mighty Matt ($25k, Jorge Periban), Moose Mitchell ($22.5k, Peter Miller), My Harbors Dream ($25k, Doug O’Neill), Northvale Road ($25k, Jonathan Wong).
