Saratoga Race Course
Weather: Temperatures in the high-70’s with low chance of showers
Race 8: Gr. I $500,000 H. Allen Jerkens Stakes (7F, Dirt, 3yr Old’s)
#1 – Conagher (7-2): Ships in for Michael Tomlinson and has taken three of his last four. Takes a big step up in class but does have the speed to back it up. Joseph Rocco Jr. will be on the engine when the gates open. #8 – Gunite (6-1) won the Gr. II Amsterdam earlier in the meet and won the Gr. I Hopeful here last year. Gaffalione keeps his mount and looks to make it three for three with the son of Gun Runner. #6 – Jack Christopher (6-5) tasted defeat for the first time in the Gr. I Haskell and cuts back to 7F’s for leading trainer Chad Brown. Plays: #4 to Win, Trifecta 1,4,8 / 1,4,8 / 6
Race 10: Gr. I $750,000 Sword Dancer Stakes (12F, Turf, 4yr Old’s +)
#6 – Gufo (9-2): Gets back to 12F’s where he is 3-for-5 with one third place finish. The big chestnut won this race last year and has banked nearly $1.6 million in career earnings. Look for him to be flying late under regular rider Joel Rosario. #3 – Broome (3-1): This world traveler finished second to Yibir in the Gr. I BC Turf last November but has only visited the winner’s circle one-time since. Won a Gr. II event at Royal Ascot on June 18th. #9 – Channel Maker (8-1) is 9-for-17 ITM going 12F’s and has the right style to hit the board. The eight-year-old has won twice this year and is in good form for Bill Mott. Plays:, #6 to Win, Trifecta 3,6 / 3,6,8,9 / 3,6,8,9
Race 11: Gr. I $1,250,000 Travers Stakes (10F, Dirt, 3yr Old’s)
#6 – Epicenter (7-5): Finished strong when taking the Gr. II Jim Dandy earlier in the meet and has not missed the exacta since his sixth-place finish on debut. All signs are pointing north and if this guy is going to finally nab a Gr. I, I believe this is his best shot. #8 – Zandon (5-1) ran second in the Jim Dandy behind the former and might be able to turn the tables going 10F’s. #1 – Cyberknife (7-2) will be closer to the pace breaking from the inside post and could play spoiler to Epicenter. Plays: #6 to Win, Exacta Box 6,8
