Santa Anita Stakes Recaps for 3-16-24
Pasadena (8T): Island Cruiser made the early lead vs. three opponents, but he could not keep it going. Stay Hot chased from second, forged to the front, and held off a late inside bid by Guy Named Joe to win by a head. Lord Bullingdon was rank and wide, and he was a clear third, and Island Cruiser weakened to last. The chalky winner stopped the clock in 1:35.37 and paid $4.00.
Grade 3 San Carlos (7f): Strong favorite The Chosen Vron got to the front from the inside post and was in control throughout under Hector Berrios. He put away chaser Elwood Blues and kept Ghost of Midnight at bay in a measured length victory, and the runner-up was 5 3/4 lengths clear of show finisher Elwood Blues. McLaren Vale, I’m a Gambler (IRE), and Super Chief also ran. The Chosen Vron paid $2.80 to win and the final time was 1:20.96.
